My trip down south was great...except for Willows Ca. 87 - 70. My donation will be made to the American Red Cross instead of California Coffers. So Arni can suck wind. My penalty will go to a good cause. Just so you know Stuke, I was thinking about you while I was in the process of safely parking on the I-5 to await my chat with one of your stae emplyees. I chuckled when I heard of your delema. Who's laughing now.
:bump: I thought this was an opportune time to bring you people up to date on Derek's progress. He is doing well and has been a long time back at full duties. He was appreciative of the efforts you guys put in participating in the Charity ride in his honor. When I saw him last year he was recently out of the hospital and recuperating at home and had yet returned to work. Below is a copy of a e-mail message I received just today from my brother in Victorville. I though it important for you to know what kind of person you put this effort behind. Situations such as this are fairly common occurrences. Most go unnoticed and unrecognized, but none the less, police still contribute to society in ways that most people are unaware. I am sure also that most people here would probably react the same way Derek did but the average person I suppose is not presented with the situations as often as a police officer would. Once again Shayne, thank you for what you did and Jason, will I be seeing you at Slo 2010? Randy When they did the presentation as Derek and his partner stood there, they described their actions pretty good. The house was on fire and filled with smoke. The victim (paralyzed) was confined to a bed in one of the bed rooms. His care provider could not move him. When Derek entered the house he could barely see his hand in front of his eyes. He found the room where the victim was and because the man was quite heavy, he rapped him in a blanket . He then tied the ends of the blanket together and hoisted it around his neck. He was able to get him to the window where the other deputy was leaning through and together they were able to get him out the window as the fire department went by. ps..I won't be able to make the trip to Canada as planned this summer because Derek's wife Liz is expecting their first child during the first week of August. We try for 2011 summer.
That's great Randy! It's nice to know that there are people like that out there. I was glad to be a part of it. Wish him and his family my best...
