    Yup...Gear Driven Cams for sure.

I noticed a bug difference hoping off my VF500 and onto my 2nd Gen.

Everything just looks and feels better...they are also supposed to be more reliable.

Good luck Dutch, and keep us posted.

I'd love to find a $300 Gen 2! I rode the crap out of my Gen 2 from about 89 to 94, when I traded in for a Gen 4.

I think that with an aftermarket exhaust, a Gen 2 is one of the sweetest sounding bikes ever made. The growl coupled with the gear whine is just mechanical music!

....same can't be said for a gen 1.. that's for sure.

Dang lad, you got a screamin' bargain for 300 bucks! Get yourself a service manual and get to work!

First order of business would be to make sure there's nothing internal that would damage the rotating parts if you get her to fire, then go through the ignition and fuel systems. After that, fire the engine up - that'll get you jazzed to finish putting the rest together so you can ride.

BTW, there IS a 'gen 1' bike that has gear-driven cams - the VF1000R.
