If you do it properly you need very little (if any) pulling force from your right arm. It's almost completely lifted by your body weight placed on the centre stand lever. Some people say you should face slightly towards the rear of the bike and use your left foot. Others say you should face slightly forward and use your right foot. I tend to go with the latter approach.

Here's another good video of how to do it (ignore his suggestion about pulling on the left grip to roll the bike backwards...explanation why I disagree with this is below).

*NOTE: I don't agree with his mentioning using your left arm to pull on the left (clutch side) grip. Think about what will happen if you aren't able to get the bike up fully and it comes back down, and you, at the same time, are pulling on the left grip. Watch what happens to the front wheel when the lady tries it at the end of the video. Because she's pulling on the left grip, the wheel turns to the left. If she hadn't been able to get the bike all the way up and it had come back down with her pulling on the left grip, the front wheel would have turned to the left and the bike would responded by leaning to the right (throttle side), away from her...where there's no stand...recipe for a drop. Remember your counter-steering lessons: push right (or pull left) lean right, turn right. In short, don't pull on the left grip. If you have to pull on anything, just pull straight upwards with your right hand/arm. In this procedure your left arm is just there for balance more than anything else.

Leaving the side stand down is a good idea if you're not too comfortable with using the centre stand, yet. In this video he puts the side stand up.

When taking a bike off the centre stand, I never do it while seated on the bike. This is the way I do it:

    1. Put the bike in neutral and put the side stand down

    2. Stand, facing forward, on the clutch lever side of the bike, with your hands on the grips as they would be when you're riding.

    3. Cover the front brake lever and be ready to apply it.

    4. Push the bike straight forward (push straight forward, evenly on both bars). The bike will start to roll forward and off the centre stand.

    5. Just after the rear wheel touches down (and the centre stand snaps up) apply the front brake to halt the forward motion of the bike, and pull the bike towards you, then rest it on the side stand.
