Center Stand Danger??

    I have levered my back weel off the ground while scraping peg feelers, which I promply removed. (its ok though cause I convinced my wife that it was too dangerous for me to ride my VFR like that and she let me buy my 999R). However I do not think I have come close to scraping my centerstand. As previously mentioned, leave it on, it is way to handy to have around.

    I used to think it was a good thing to look at your rear tire & see wear all the way to the very edge of the tread. Now that I've received the proper training, I know this is quite incorrect. When I showed up to the Sportbike course I just completed, the very first thing we did on the range was examine our rear tires. I was the most guilty one out of the 6. My tires had indications of wear PAST the edge of the tread. I mistakenly thought it was my skill that kept me going. It wasn't skill, it was dumb luck.

    In order to get a VFR to touch the center stand, you'll have to be leaning over to the point where your tires have zero tread remaining. I've drug my center stand a few times so I know this to be true. With zero tread remaining, (thinking in MSF terms, they call it traction reserve) if you screw up anything, you're done. You have nothing left to rely on since your tires are at their limit. Now that I've been shown how to get my fat butt hanging off the bike, I can do the same turns at less of a lean angle & have that much tread remaining to save my butt if I screw up.

    Yo John, great video, love your country. I found this one other video in the group with yours with folks running that Highway. Dude, what a crack up. I'm not use to you guys being on the another side of the road, to funny. I also noticed in this video the different sound each bike makes, particularly the diff between the 6th gen and the 5th. Nice, thanks for sharing

    Now back on topic, KC is spot on. Ive only touched a center stand a couple times in all my biking, and both times it was in a place where one I was way over, but I also hit a dip in the road where it actually was due in part to force that let the center stand down, not me being to far over. but yea I was over too. Boy, talk about a while back, that was like on my CB350 of days gone by, nothing even close now.

    Cheers RVFR isn't it wonderful what you find on the internet :smile:, often go away with those guys but missed that run to the Oxley. Pretty sure the last bike is actually a Gen 4 that they turned into a track bike later.

    er...how?

    now how can something that is hinged and moveable lever the wheel off the ground? The feelers are there to warn you that something important MAY hit the ground shortly - ie the collector box on the right side on 5th gen...

    either you scraped something else as well as the pegs, or your heroic side is showing..:madgrin:

    the peg feeler was dragging with a bit of weight on it, then caught in a imperfection in the road. back wheel came up off the ground. was definently a "oh s**t moment.
