I thought I'd show a procedure for repairing a bad CDI, this video shows how to repair cold solder cracks on the CDI's board, this is fairly simple repair for anyone with a little time and basic soldering skills that will last a long time. If components on the CDI board are bad that is a whole other issue. This is a repair I did for my Honda 5518 compact tractor and have done on other CDI's that were not working. I also went back to the bad (small) CDI I had trouble with at the start of the summer on my VF500 and after looking more closely found several cold solder cracks and was able to repair them.
Good info, cold solder joints usually come from movement before solder completely cools. Look light gray, crystalline.
Depends on what the problem is... I knew for certain on my tractor the CDI was bad, I had nothing to lose and a couple hundred bucks to save doing a repair I am familiar with.
Sorry, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to look closer at, I see what looks like a CDI box with a license plate and LED strip on it.
