I was at a computer store in Simi Valley years ago, when Rockdyne decided to test one of Shuttle engines. What incredible sound, I thought the plate glass window was going to break.

Was it that tiny little store next to the Kawasaki dealer by the RR tracks?
Grew up at the end of Roscoe when there was NOTHING in the 60’s and 70’s. Heard and saw them all the time.
That’s why they call Box canyon cancer canyon, because of Rocketdyne

I never heard it called that before. That's a funky area, that and Chatsworth Lake Manor, Simi Knolls....
But hell, there's all kinds of funky hill side areas around here. :)
End of Roscoe is now a bunch of big new houses. Still building, last time I was there.

Back in the 60, you could take your dirt bikes and enter at the end of Roscoe, and ride all the way to the top a Rocketdyne Road.
Funny I live in Chatsworth while working here, 1/2 BLK from Chatsworth park, my old stomping grounds.
The thing to do back then was stand in the tunnel, with your back against the wall while the train came by inches from you.

If it's truly PG&E's "fault", the only things that will happen are that a few higher up heads will roll and, at worse (or best) the company will be broken up. They're lobbyists have paid off the politicians handsomely one way or another, don't be naive. Has anyone ever witnessed a utility company function efficiently and safely over the long term? BTW, utility companies are YOU. They just insulate themselves from you and don't want to talk with YOU. Try it.

The power utilities up here have a pretty decent record. The difference here is that they are not privately owned. There is really no profit in the pocket driven issues here. They are all Crown Corporations. Crown is Canadianese for Government. Sure they try to make a profit to some degree. You need profit to provide a proper service. But the profit stays with the corporation and not into some investors or other person's pocket book. The profit is used to maintain and upgrade service to keep it among other things, safe.

Then again, I suspect we pay more for our power than many down there. Just like fuel and just about everything else. Hell we pay more form copyright infringement on music and videos.

Computer store was in strip mall, big plate windows on the stores were shaking like an earthquake. Standing out front, I could see the plume of steam from firing the engine into the cooling water.

    LOL, crazy.
I grew up close to a freight train yard. We used to hop the trains and climb to the other side rather than wait for them to get out of the way.
Used to think about riding the freight trains just for fun. But had no way to know where the train might go. No money either.

Agreed that the consumers will be the ones absorbing the costs, but PG&E was found criminally negligent last time with the Napa fire I believe and that's how they got on probation. I believe I'm stating this correctly. Let me review today's paper real quick like.

ok, I'm a little off, it was the 2010 San Bruno fire and they were found guilty of a felony and that's how they got on probation. The article mentions that in addition to civil suits, they could face criminal suits and the attorney general has said they could be prosecuted for murder.

All that's fine and good but where does their money come from?......their customers, again, they will pay for incompetence.

I don't know this for sure, but if a company is charged criminally down there, is it not a person who is sentenced for the crime such as a CEO or someone who may be responsible for a specific task that was neglected? I thought that would be the case. That is why I suggested earlier that it would be better to charge criminally rather than civil suits. In a civil suit, the company pays but passes the cost onto the consumer. In a criminal matter, I would think the penalties would need to be paid by the individual.

That would not do anything for those who lost property, but then people should have insurance to protect themselves with in such events. I live on the Ring of Fire so we could suffer a devastating earthquake here. But that is extremely unlikely. But I have ha earth quake insurance on my homes ever since I moved out here. And it is expensive. If I lived in an area where fire is an issue, I would make sure my policy covered losses due to fire. If that is not available in that area, I would not be living there. I can't afford to start all over again buying a new home and all its contents.

Don't know because I'm blessed with not being a lawyer.

I think the state of California carries huge responsibility as well as other governmental entities and homeowners that built / bought houses around dry fuel. There is a mentality that forest fires and fires should always be put out therefore, there is more fuel to burn and when it does burn, this is what happens. Mother Nature, before "we" were around, got rid of excess fuel through lightening and perhaps other means. Yellowstone, for example, is recovering productively. California has a record of now yearly and enormously destructive fires. California is also in trouble (hello) for not having the money and likely the desire to remove fuel. I'm sure Jerry Brown can raise taxes but the tree huggers are alive and "not well". Don't even go to global warming. This is a man made tragedy.
