That's sweet Comicus! RC51's are impressive machines aren't they? Lumpy cam idle, big boomy exhaust note, sweet cam gear whine, snorty intake honk.....it's all the sound and fury you'd expect from a big bore twin. I've got an '04 RC51 myself. They're just plain cool machines.

LOL. Well that didn't take very long. I see you've already found out that the torque these bikes make is addictive. Somehow you always find yourself squeezing the throttle just a little bit more for another fix of that torque rush. It's pure unadulterated motorcycling bliss.

I gotta admit I laughed out loud when you mentioned 6th gear. You're absolutely right though, the stock gearing is so tall that basically 5th and 6th gear are pretty much useless for the street. I ended up shortening my final drive gearing, you could practically cruise around all day on it at 30-35 MPH and never have to take the bike out of 1st gear. It seemed like the motor was just loafing along. It was silly.

I completely agree with you that riding an RC51 really puts it into perspective just how refined a road going machine the VFR really is. No matter what else I park in my garage, there will always be a parking space reserved for my VFR.

The RC51 has tons of potential,it's up to you to unlock it. Take your time and learn the bike,it's like nothing else you've ever ridden before. But then I guess you already know that.
Congratulations Comicus, welcome to the V-twin club.

Yes, they are pretty much bullet proof but don't shop the dealer for one unless you're just interested in a test ride.

there was a girl around here that had a SuperHawk, then she later had an RC51. She worked for a local news station, and was told to park in a different spot because the hawk was loud enough to be picked up on the mikes during broadcast. The RC was a whored out bike, she let everyone take it out and beat on it. I did get the chance to take it out for a short ride (about 40 miles or so) and the MPG was horrific, but the acceleration was jut mind boggling. It just carved up the corners, and I always had to watch the speedo.

Great add to the stable, just watch out for the cops!

The riding position really isn't that bad...I put just about 100 miles or so the other day and really I didn't feel that stiff. I personally am only going to use the bike for short rides and leave the longer rides to the VFR but I've read where guys put bar risers on and claim to "tour" the bike. But after a ride on the RC the VFR feels like your favorite Lazy Boy. I found mine on craigs list in Indianapolis for 5k. The weather sucked so I trailered it back down to Nashville. The booming sound of that V twin is addictive and was what finally sold me on the bike. When I saw the bike I thougt "yeah it's nice but what do I need another bike for" but when the sell started it up I knew I was buying another bike!
