I'll second your "holy cr@p". There's a 2001 with only 6,000 miles on it that just came up near Greenville on Craigslist, but I thought, "do I really wanna drive it back in this weather?" May wait to see if it's still for sale NEXT week....when it'll be back in the balmy 40's. Good luck with your bike. Was it the yellow and black one that was on Craigslist?
Yep, the very same. Bodywork held together with zip ties, electrical problems, exhaust leak, etc... I should've ran the other way but I guss somewhere I un-learned that old lesson. The really funny thing was, the whole time we were negotiating over the bike, the seller claimed the bike "came that way from the factory". I gave too much money for it, guess I'm getting softhearted. The guy said his wife was forcing him to sell the toys because he'd been out of work for four months. I felt bad for him. Initially I named a lowball price (standard negotiating tactic) but didn't stick with it. Oh well, I'll consider that my good deed for the holiday season.
Tis the season, huh? That is why I practically get an ulcer when it comes to meeting someone about their used bike. I am horrible at negotiating. I always wanna give the person the benefit of the doubt, but am afraid of getting ripped off. I can see myself doing exactly what you did and taking pity on the guy only to find you shoulda stuck with your initial price. So now I find myself wanting to just forget about buying another bike. I hope there are no more "surprises" for you.
