This is a a "V" configuration which has a longer stroke and more torque than inline 4s. Now we do see some VFR1200's in Europe actually failing, and Honda stating that the riders are lugging the new engine. However, has anyone ever seen that in the history of the VFR800? With cars I always went with the rule, if it pulls on throttle, the gear is fine. If it does not pull, or additional throttle does not provide additional pull, the rpm is too low. After reading all of these discussions, and being a novice motorcyclist, I am unclear as to what the rules are for a motorcycle engine. Rather than hearsay I am interested in knowing if there are there 100,000 mile bikes with original engines where the owner has spent a great deal of time in the city at 3,000 rpm? That is the empirical test that would override any opinions.
