Well, I got my forks back today, so I was able to test out the Z-Fi. It works just fine and the bike now has much smoother throttle response in low gear + low rpm situations.

Hopefully I'll get to take it through the twisties on the weekend, to check it out further.

im pretty sure that the bazzaz takes engine rpm vs rear wheel speed to calculate gear possition, there by enabling map by gear...

Did the install require you to eliminate the O2 sensors?

Yeah vfrs run like shit until you eliminate the factory o2 sensors. They are impossible to tune right as the factory computer would be fighting against the tuner trying to lean the air fuel ratios out, while the tuner would be trying to richened it up.

Yes, and the kit comes with the correct plugs for disabling the O2 sensors.
I then went to a local fastening supplies specialist and got two brass sump plugs, so I could remove the actual sensors themselves from the exhaust system.

Also, I went for a good 50 kilometre ride on Friday afternoon and I am pleased to report that the bike is running much more smoothly now. The stumbling and surging in low gear + low rpm situations has gone, too.

Thanks for the info. Glad it is working well for you. I think I am going to go with the bazzaz unit when I get the cash saved. Christmas for the kids has emptied my fun money.

Be aware that there's a bit of work involved in installing the Z-Fi. You have to remove your tank, airbox and LH fairing, as well as doing some splicing into various leads.
On the plus side, the instructions are quite detailed and include pictures, although I recommend you look at the instructions on the Bazzaz website, as their pictures are much clearer and larger than the printed ones supplied.

Thanks. I am comfortable with doing that. It seems less complicated than pulling carbs, changing jets, needles and float height. I got to where I liked doing that and being a tinkerer, it makes me feel better connected to the bike.

Does the bazzaz allow you to customize the map or is it static?

The Z-Fi will allow you to add a custom map. I don't think you can alter the map already loaded onto the Z-Fi.

How are you getting along with your Bazzaz unit? Still liking it?

Yeah, I can't report anything negative about it. As I said previously, the surging and stumbling issues at low rpm are gone now and my fuel economy has actually increased!
