I thought all those Cannuckistan pressure washers were metric. With the needle tip you could put your initials on the filter with a little practice. I know there are those oot there who steal and collect air filters.

If I wanted to buy one, I think the best bet would be one a couple of years old that had been checked out first to make sure the air filter was clean.

    Whenever..

Last week in San Quintin Mexico my partner in crime had his brand new K&N oil filter start leaking oil. I wont mention anyone by name but it does rhyme with Reg71. I don't believe it was installed incorrectly so much as just a poor product. We were very fortunate to locate a replacement in such a remote location and continued on withoot any further issues.

I had never had a problem with K&N oil filter over 7 years on 3 Ducati's and one Honda VFR1220F. So, did my first oil change at about 400 miles on my new 2014 VFR800FD a couple of weeks ago with a K&N and Motul 300V oil. I was up in Yellowstone National Park and rode a couple of days about 300 miles total. Took off on another ride and about 12 miles into the park started seeing some smoke behind me in rear view mirror, looked down and had oil all over my left boot. Shut down and coasted into a parking area draining oil. Stopped and about 2 quarts came out. Oil f'ing everywhere. Got a ride back to town, got my motorhome with garage in back and loaded up.
I couldn't believe it was the filter so I filled the crank, started it up and sure as sh*t, oil flowed out. Went to Honda dealer, bought a Honda filter and Honda oil and went through the whole drill of removing the fairing and removing the K&N. It looked like a section of the O-ring had flattened or pushed into the groove and it wasn't even all the way around. I've put on 20 of these oil filters and never had a problem, but maybe I overtightened this one. Don't know, but it definitely failed. Is this the "typical" failure mode? Anyway, put on the Honda, filled and started - no leaks. 1000 miles more and no leaks. I'm done with K&N. Sorry I didn't see these posts earlier, but glad I'm not in the hospital or dead from a rear wheel spin out on a curve when the oil let loose.

Holy crap, that brings up some interesting memories for me. Mine blew out on the way to Yellowstone. Had to get serviced in Bozeman, Montana. Glad you were ok though. Honda Genuine Parts all the way for me now.[IMG]

Lets see if I got this right? I'm an el cheapo because I use a diluted concentrate that makes up several gallons of the same thing as many of the atomizer bottles of cleaners on the supermarket shelves and ol Rob works on Dodge trucks that aren't his. Kind of makes me wonder just who is paying for the K&N squirt bottle cleaner.

The K&N air cleaner on me mach 1 is the same one I installed years ago. Probably before Donald Trump took over K&N..

I'll have to find my old posts that show a guy with calipers measuring the size of an OEM filter and showing the incorrect size of the K&N. I believe that is the main cause of pinched O rings on these filters. The poor weld of the nut is another problem with them. I have personally seen 3 do this with correctly Installed K&N's.

Napa platinum is what I like to use-nice heavy steel case compared to a shitty Walmart ST-add that to the list of crappy filters. Don't be cheap with oil filters $9 Napa on sale is perfection.

    Wow.
Ricko600, glad to read that you remained upright on the bike. Tough lesson, and another cautionary tale for the rest of us.

AM, I have shared your great ( worth at least 2000 words) photo with many riding friends, who don't happen to ride VFR's. If it saves one bike, rider, or engine, so worth the share.

BTW, they all think you are a hero. You have a great unseen fan club. :eagerness:
