    Hi

I have a new set of plugs and leads on the bike, you suggest that I follow the cable from the run switch and clean the connectors and the ecu plug and socket, I can manage that, I had to replace the 3 and 6 pin connectors on the rectifier unit, as the previous owner had cut them off and used screw connector blocks

Hi yes plug gaps checked as I know they get bounced in the boxes quite hard

I will pull the plugs when I get the tank off to see the colours and make sure they are all the same

I have set the air screws at 2.75 turns out, but it still seems to be very rich running

    Is in leaner or out?

those are not air screws but fuel screws, so out is richer. again, how do you know it's too rich ?

From my ST1100 manual, there was a specific test to check for voltage at the ECU, below When that was low, I worked my way back through the connectors to find the cause, in my case it was the red connectior that feeds to the right bar pod where the starter and kill switch are. From the wiring diagram for the VF1000, I think you need to check the black/white wire where it enters the two spark units and check there is battery voltage to the green earth wire.

I have been both bike and car mechanic for many years, I might not know this bike very well yet but I can smell a rich engine,

Other parts of me may have failed like my heart, but the nose still works, but I agree a gas analyser would be a better test, and also the exhaust ends have gone black in less than 5 miles, it also starts first time with no choke

OK, do you have compressed air ?? if so, direct a blast into the oval-shaped section and watch to see that all slides move up smartly.

you can try using a length of rubber hose directed from your mouth to the oval section and blow hard like trump making a speech. do each carb and see if slide wants to move up.

I will surely have a go at blowing down them and see if they all move the same ISH,
the wife recons I'm full of hot air so should not have too many issues blowing in them.

I did not get the chance to take the plugs out and have check on the colours, but i did rev the bike with the air box off and they all seemed to jump about at the same rate,

The three yellow wires out of the stator were just spades pushed into another set of spade terminals, so I fitted a new 3 way original looking white plastic plug and socket, now the bike keeps blowing the main fuse?

3 yellows to 3 yellows, did not think i could get that wrong..........................

Carbs are coming off again for another clean up

Not had a chance to do anything, got to get the decorating finished before bike time,
As the shutter installers are coming next week and it’s all got to be done by then

But the virtual rev limiter is now down to 4500 rpm, so the carbs will be off tomorrow and taken to the workshop for some TLC again

Those Rubber Carb Venturi Tubes shrink with age and leak air in.
I had to do the WinterGreen dunk to expand them back to fit into the seating groove.
