It doesn't bother me too much, but the wife and I were on a little ride a few weeks ago and the destination I picked, unbeknownst to me, was up a fairly steep grade covered in various types and thickness of gravel. By the time we got to the top, the wife was very concerned, to say the least, about going back down the mountain. Did I mention this was her first ride in about a year and a half? Needless to say, she wasn't too happy with me until we both made it safely to flatter land.

the government (Federal, not state) decided a number of years ago to replace the decking on the oldest swing bridge along the Mississippi River with the metal grates. In the middle of doing it, the crew went on strike, delaying it longer. Now none of the grates line up, so that bridge is avoided at all costs.

Also a little bit of interesting history about it...

Years ago, on some internet motorcycle venue, I asked for metal grate bridge stories. The one that stuck with me was a story of two guys racing across a bridge. They crashed and were pureed. Don't know if it was true, but at any rate, the bridge would surely win.

Nope. I ran some gravel a few weeks ago.

I'm used to it, unless its fresh gravel.......that stuff I won't ride on.
