Randy, reminds me of a situation I had here a couple of years ago. I had 15 bikes in my shed, mostly old Brit ones. 3 of the bikes belonged to a cop, drug fucked idiot living next door threatened to burn the shed down. When I told the cop he had better move his bikes because of this problem, his reply was I don't care they are insured. Wasn't really the answer I wanted

My dad used to do the same thing on trips with me when I was a kid. Works like a charm.

If perchance you do stay in East LA or for that matter all the way to the water, Claymores are a great defense.

If you do use a brake rotor lock and it hasn't got an audible alarm, make sure there is something visible on the bike to remind you to remove it before you ride (or rather attempt) to ride off.

If you don't use one all the time it is easy to just load the bike up, start it up and try to ride when you suddenly come to a dead stop with all that comes with forgetting your lock is on. And here speaks the voice of experience !!!!

You can get a sort of elasticated lanyard that goes between the lock and the handlebars as a reminder. Cheap to buy...............possibly expensive if you don't !!!!

    Enjoy your trip Be safe

Xena makes an obnoxiously loud alarm. Whenever possible, I ask the hotel clerk to let me park outside the door and get the nearest room to the front door, they have always been accommodating to my requests.

Do you leave all that gear on your bike? Seems like some of it should go into the room with. ie toothbrush, fresh skivvies. sox, comb, dirty books, TV guide ect.

Nah, saddle bags, tail bag, tank bag and even the throttle lock comes with me inside. TV guide is available online now days, and dirty books are not needed, I can get dirty by myself.
A man has three basic needs: food, sleep and sex. I can fulfill all those needs by myself......on my bike.
