CRT rules actually allow for production based engines in MotoGP. This actually has WSBK's promotional company up in arms and crying, because they are supposed to be THE production based series. The FIM just put out a press release today, trying to appease them, even though they didn't really change their stance at all...

Except their issue is money, and developing a new engine/bike from scratch like that, takes a lot of scratch, which they ain't got!

It's not that they don't have the cash, it's just that the board sees a better return on their money elsewhere. Motorcycles isn't the only thing they do and superbike racing is more inline with their corporate direction and strengths.

    Moto2????

Marquez, Sofuoglu, DeAngelis, Redding, Smith....any of these ring a bell? This is the class that should be receiving the majority of the discussion.

At the top, MotoGP will remain as is for quite some time. Three words...1. Casey 2. Stoner 3. Honda. The combination of those three words could prove to be devastating. That can of whoop ass is just itching to be opened. Feb 1-3 will solidify how it is going to go this year for the big boys. If you aren't ready at the first test, you're screwed.

Here's an interesting paragraph that came from Mr. Emmet ( at Kropotkins MotoGp Matters) it certainly piqued my interest, as does all the info on the inner workings of the two series. Although meant as intro into an article describing the competitive nature of the the two series, its raises a question. How do you explain to your significant other or other friends out there your addiction to bike racing? heeheheeeee One of the DVRs in my house is still full from last yrs races.
    ..............................
The most common question asked of hardcore motorcycle racing fans by their partners is surely this: "Is that the one that Rossi's in?" That deceptively simple question encompasses just about all of the problems and challenges faced by world championship motorcycle racing both at present and into the future: The similarity to the casual observer of the World Superbike and MotoGP championships; the primacy and importance of Valentino Rossi within motorcycle racing; and the fact that both series appear to be fighting over the same core audience.

To Bears post: An interesting point to be sure, but I would've thought racing's core audience to be following both series and possibly their national races, AMA etc. In other words, does motorcycle racing even have "casual observers" in the same way that a housewife might watch ten minutes of a major golf championship so as to catch Tiger play a hole or two; then flip back to the lifetime network without a care about the final result? I certainly understand Rossi's drawing power, but as a "core viewer", it's unreasonable to say that I won't watch a race in which he's not involved. I suspect that goes for most followers of MotoGP and WSBK.
