Thanks Mike. At the end of the day, it continues to come full circle back to the VFR for me as it does others. I am an engineer and have owned a few different kinds of motorcycles but as you know...you don't know 'till you own one if the ergos are going to work which is real important to me as I age and continue to enjoy motorcycling. The counterintuitive thing is pure upright isn't necessarily better as you stated about your KLR 650 and why I believe the VFR has such a strong following. Bolt upright transfers more weight to the lower back and that bothers more then a few riders. The good news about the VFR is the handlebars can be raised and foot pegs can be lowered a bit and the Sargent seat levels out the sitting surface. It has been reported that the VFR can be transformed into a sofa i.e. ST1300 upright riding position only without the mass but changing the afore mentioned. I prefer the VFR bike to the ST1300 mostly because of the mass difference and the overall sportiness.
Please keep us posted. You may end up really liking your new Viffer and I will likely follow you and pick one up as well.
    Ride safe,
    George

I've owned an R1200RT and it ran quite well with no problems at all in 18,000 miles. I sold it because the seat height was too high at low adjustment and the whole bike was too top heavy for me.

I then bought a K1200R in a killer deal with specials from BMW last Christmas time as well as dealer discounts. Put a sport shield and it has better wind protection than either my 6th or 5th gen. VFR (own both gens). The K bike is a rocket with a longer wheelbase than the VFR but not a problem for me in the twisties. Takes a little getting used to after riding VFRs in twisties but, without question, I can outrun my VFR's on the K bike in the curves.

Know you posted about the boxer bike so there's just an adder. I like the boxer engines and anticipate owning another one of these days when BMW comes out with the right bike for me.

    BB,
I posted about the boxer beemers because the book on them is they handle a bit better then the K in-line 4 cyl bikes in spite of the top heavy references of boxer bikes which is true. The K1200R is a wicked cool bike and flat gorgeous IMHO and a rocket. I am a bit surprised however that you can out handle a VFR with your K bike as I would think the handling on the shorter wheelbase VFR would be a bit better. The real reason I don't want to opt for the K bike honestly is the horsepower. I am a bit of speed junkie even for an old guy and believe I would simply end up riding faster at more risk and likely getting tickets on the K. The Viffer is the sweet spot for me for speed which is close to the boxer bikes. Each are faster then my cruiser which is still a mid 12 quarter mile bike...to me plenty fast enough but almost pedestrian by motorcycle standards today.
    Thanks for your comments,
    George
