yes. As said, it's a gamble. This model is not known for reliability and has known mechanical weaknesses in the cams and valves often propagated by years of poor maintenance. A guy could get lucky and find that a carb cleaning and valve adjustment puts it back in tip top shape. Or you could be left with a pile of parts that need to be sold on ebay to recover your money.

Based on this statement, I'd caution you not to buy another VF500.

This isn't some great deal that's too good to pass up. There will be another come along in a couple weeks. Bikes are like women, how many ask the first one they ride to marry them? Some are high maintenance. some are fun for a half hour and turn into a pain in the ass. Some like new shoes all the time. Some are heavy and some athletic. Some temperamental and some easy going. Buy a different bike, then sell it and try another. If you come back later to the VF500 then good for you.

 

who cares? Just like the metro bus, there'll be another along in 10 minutes just begging for someone to hop on.

Any good woman would say the same thing about men.
