Got a 2008 800 ABS with 26k miles, 22k of which are mine when I bought it around 2019/2020. Bike is bone stock so far as I can tell (except for fender eliminator and windscreen), it's a year round daily driver, and ran absolutely flawlessly until 2-3 years ago when it periodically would refuse to fire.

Always cranks strong and I have a new battery on it. It would just crank and crank and crank and then (after releasing and repressing the button x number of times) it would fire like nothing was the matter. It did and still does run perfectly after starting. Weather/temperature/humidity don't seem to matter. Bike tends to start much more easily when it's hot but if I leave it and go into the store for ten minutes it's again hard to start.

The problem has progressively gotten worse so I'm scouring forums and having AI conversations all over the place. I have a spark on the front two cylinders but I noticed that when it's just cranking without starting the indicator light doesn't come on. Same behavior on both front plugs - haven't checked the rear two yet.

I replaced the guts of the fuel tank so that should be all good. No codes being displayed and as mentioned the bike runs beautifully after it starts.

I did a thing where, with the key in the Run position, I used the kill switch to prime the bike 5 times before starting. On four of five tries at varying times of day but always when the bike hadn't been ridden for a few hours, the bike started without any trouble. One of five times gave me the crank, crank, crank but no start issue for a while.

Maybe a fuel pressure issue? Maybe ECU not telling the coil to fire for some reason? I'm stumped and the AI now wants me to assemble a fuel pressure rig from miscellaneous parts.

Thoughts anyone? I'd greatly appreciate being able to rely on this beast again. Thanks!
