6th gen Airbox hack... THAT'S RIGHT I DID IT!

    Let the haters hate. I hacked the top off my airbox. It's not going to create a leaner condition then what it may already have with the K&N and gutted exhaust, the filter will still only flow so much air. As for the MAP sensor, it runs off the TB's anyway, so...

    I have not noticed any ill side effects as of yet, just an increase in noise from the airbox. I'll probably work up a mesh or something, later, to prevent big debris from getting inside.

    Why would you do that lmao

    Disabling the flapper and removing the snorkle fixed my 5th gens problems under 3000rpm and makes a TONNE of noise over 5000rpm.

    You know the kn filter flows less air than the stock oem air filter right?
    If you wanted more noise good job, but if you wanted more power, that big hole is gonna do nothing with the kn filter, tiny velocity stacks, and stock throttle bodies under neath it.

    Next thing you're going to tell us is that you have a set of 2,5, and 10lb sledgehammers for bolt torquing. :rolleyes:
    Seriously though the increase intake noise = lost power.

    SHHH! You guys are giving away all my HP secrets...

    More power? Not really going for that, as you have to, basically, get into some crazy stuff to really add HP to a bike.

    As far as losing HP, please do tell how this will lose HP, versus taking out all the flapper and PAIR stuff. You can say it will because of volumetric filling of the TB's or something like that, because now the top of the box is gone, but since the volume below the filter hasn't changed at all I don't really see how that is a factor.
    If it did drop, I could see it doing so on the bottom end, but not by more than 1-2, if any at all.

    Well, I took it for a 100+ mile ride this weekend. Mostly spirited twisty riding, and averaged about 43-45 mpg. Average speed was somewhere in the 55-85mph area.
    So, overall, I'm not too sure I've seen the drawbacks to my hack job yet.

    You could sell your ass as a calibrated dyno. I need some tuning on my PCII and none of the local shops are willing to work on them any more. Could be a niche market for you.

    I would all but guarantee, if you put this bike on a dyno, that you would would see a significant loss in low end and midrange power/torque, and probably not much gain on top.

    My two bits worth???

    Why?

    It is possible to alter the performance of a vehicle, SOMETIMES in a positive manner, when engineered and proven OEM or after market "enhancements" are fitted to various vehicles (2 & 4 wheels), however, the average back yard spur of the moment decision to modify something that Mr Honda, Suzuki, Ford, Chev whatever, has spent many years developing and dozens of well paid engineers with degrees as long as your arm to come up with the best possible solution to get the ultimate:- economy / comfort / safety / speed / handling / looks / power / torque (insert here ..........whatever item you intend to alter)
    It is MOST likely you will alter one or more of the remaining items listed and or some not listed


    Go back several weeks to 1st & 2nd Gen forum where we see "Destroyed my swingarm, Take my advise" where he decides to look for a longer swingarm by (3 inches) because he feels it looks better??? seriously he must have 2 dicks, no one gets that stupid playing with one.

    At least you are able to purchase a new airbox and no one will know it was you.

    Think about it:- The thousandths of an inch in difference between jet sizes/ carby throats/ fuel delivery/ throttle twist, hours & hours of work on a lap top punching data into a program with more intel than any of us put together, and your going to luck straight onto it with the perfect alteration of air intake by hacking the top off your airbox??

    Maybe Mr Honda should have put a bit of mesh or something around it, to stop you getting into it.
