I-phone comes with GPS, an i-pod for my music, a nice camera, and i'm able to make calls at my stops. Seems to me that having everything i need mounted to my bike in a small package is a smart thing to do. Less shit i have to carry!!

I can understand that, and it makes sense to me. What I was commenting on was the fact that someone said people have trouble hearing them, which means they're using the cell phone. Having an MP3 player and GPS all in one is a good deal, just the using of the cell phone sets my bells to ringing.

Good point. Now you have me thinking about spending even more money. Wait a minute, I'll break or lose my current phone and tell my boss I need an iPhone as a replacement.

I don't get it with the inverter - your bike is changing A/C to D/C and you want to change it back to A/C, then back to D/C AGAIN? You loose big time that way, create heat, etc. In my mind an inverter has no place on a bike, ok maybe a Wing...

Powerlet's iPhone cable on the other hand takes D/C and puts out D/C, merely dropping the Voltage to iPhone level.

I don't want to argue with the guy that said his iPhone has a good camera but the photos I've seen didn't impress me.

I agree that Ram mount is going to kill an iPhone, I advise anyone NOT to solidly mount any such device like that. GPS and stuff are designed to take shocks, cellphone are not. And if you think warranty will cover it, think again. There are sensors inside that tell the company what the phone has gone through and they will just say sorry you abused it.

I don't want to go into the fact that a phone is a dumb thing on a bike, because I believe it is, but I know that many people ride in areas where there ain't any hills and on highways with little traffic, etc. Therefore you must do something to amuse yourself, since you're not carving up the canyons and stuff. So go ahead listen to music, keep the iPhone in your pocket, and charge it up at night. Use a bluetooth headset and everybody's happy.

Please do not answer the phone while riding, in fact turn the incoming calls off, simply turn the answering machine on - you always stop at least once an hour, right?

An incoming call popping up on your Zumo might just be all that's needed for you to rearend that SUV you've been following. Imagine how silly you'd feel. You've been warned.

I don't usually comment on these types of things but I feel strongly about no incoming phone calls on bikes. Please be careful out there.

Why did you use an inverter?

Simply une a car charger for your iphone. All you had to do is install a female cigerette lighter connector (3$) on your tail light and plug the car charger in it.

i was happy with my crappy old phone.

but when i got the VFR and saw that a GPS was $800+ au, i started thinking about the iphone for the reasons others have also listed, gps, phone, music, camera etc, all with decent size screen, all in one.

but i am worried about the shock/breakage factor.

maybe members who do mount their iphone to their bike can get back to us over time to let us know how the iphone holds up.
