5th gen chain adjustment

    The factory repair manual for 5th gen chain adjustment stated .9 to 1.2 slack adjusted to spec and rode 50 mi.seemed to be to tight anybody got input.better little loose than to tight.

    If the chain is showing wear you most likely have a series of loose-then-tight spots in the chain, so get the rear wheel up and spin the wheel to find the TIGHTEST spot, aND THEN SET PROPER TENSION there.

    Better a bit on the loose side; as the suspension moves through it's stroke it passes through the point where the pivot and the two sprocket axes are all in line, and that is the tightest configuration. If the chain is a bit tight on the stand, it will be much too tight at this point, and you run the risk of damaging the chain. I think this is probably where those annoying tight spots arise from, as the excess force bends a chain pin slightly and makes it less able to freely rotate.
