We used to live and work in the West Lebanon, NH area. Nice time of year to be riding there but it will turn cold soon enough, if I still lived there I'd be putting the bike in storage by the end of October. Congrats on turning 200k miles!
Been to Alaska two times, both of which we drove cars extensively. I was always wowed by the bikes navigating the roads there, not for the faint of heart! I saw everything from Translaps to old Americades and HD's plodding along. You could not pay me to take the viffer oot on that kind of loop. I would pack the shate of my little Ninja though and do it in a New York minute, sounds like a bucket list trip fer sure. Nice read on all your follies regarding maintenance. I replaced the entire clutch around 75,000 and really didnt notice a difference except at around 120 mph or so. New springs would have surficed along with the friction plates. I heard that the rear hub is a bitch to service as you have to have a press, which I dont own. I have the new parts for it and they are sitting in the tool box. Fork seals for me lasted 70,000 and blew because I got ambitious one weekend and decided to swap oot the fluid for Honda 5 weight. Long story short, they started weeping. I used Bel-Ray 7 weight and am happy with it. Got a Fox shock years ago along with Race Tech emulators and their springs. The long mile dance is a blast and deserves lots of bragging rights! In the end, its all "ashes to ashes really." The law of diminishing returns sets in, unless you got your shit under glass, then its no fun anyway. Mine sits on an air table in the garage and gets yearly oil changes, it used to be different though...Cheers, happy riding and have fun picking oot a new steed....:vtr2:
Thanks, not sure what the next mount will be, but if I had to buy something tomorrow, it would be a wee-strom.
I did all those roads in a cage! I got into a skid on the haul road on the way to the Artic Circle and could have tossed a coin on the out come, I am here typing so we came oot of it ok  I remember doing the ferry ride in the Yukon Territory and there was a kewel looking doode on the deck with a boarder collie. When we got off that boat, I saw him mount up on an old Honda Wing, the bike had some sheep skin cover on the petrol tank, he got on, then the damn dog jumped up there and straddled the tank with legs draped on either side of the tank. Together they took off! Some stuff you just cant blot oot of your foggy mind. :hippy: I regret not having a drink with a pickeled toe @ the Red Onion in Skagway  If I was lookig for a replacement for the viffer, I would look at a Kawasaki ZX10, the non race replica bike... btw, my original regulator lasted 70,000 miles and got me stuck for five minutes before a friend came with his pick up truck  Stator is on the second one. I have a list as long as my arm with the parts that I replaced...Cheers, happy riding....
