Unload it and move on..I have found myself many times with toys I really didn't fall in love with, some that i quickly hated, (the $#@& camel bike comes to mind, and my fjr,)and I dumped them as fast as I could and moved on. Course I lost money, but good ridance.. Life's to short to not be happy when it comes to toys! Go shopping, but this time test ride more first...

    good luck

You won't find many bikes out there as versatile as the VFR. I own an 07 and a 93 and I love them both. I bought the VFR for what it is, a great all around bike that is very dependable and holds it's value well. My friends may smile when they pass me on their liter bikes but I am the one smiling when I can actually walk after an all day ride.

    Regards,
    Rollin

There's something to be said about that being able to walk after, and not only that, but to be able to hop on again right after and to it all over again
But I get his meaning, So.. whats ya going to do? I know, wait for the mysterious 7th gen huh?

I go with the BMW guys from Lubbock up to Sippapu every fall for a rally. The roads from Mora to Taos, Red River, Angle Fire and back to Mora are amazing.

As far as your dissapointment with the 6th gen VFR, If you really think you do not like it, I would trade it now. Having said that, I love mine (2002). Prior to my wife letting me get a second bike, I was riding my VFR with my buddies (2006 ZX10 and 2006 CBR1000RR). Obviously they could leave me in the dust on any straight road whenever they wanted. After I took off the peg feelers, I could hang with them in almost any corner. It says alot about the confidence inspiring stability of the vfr to hang with bikes that make 50 more HP and weigh 100 lbs less. If I could only have one bike, to both commute (sometimes up to 40 miles) and ride for fun, I can think of none better. There are smaller, lighter, more powerful, less comfortable bikes, and there are bigger, heavier, more powerful, more comfortable bikes, but for me, the VFR is the perfect compromise. As previously suggested, I would look at dropping a tooth on the drive sprocket for more low end (if you keep the bike).
Or just get a Duc to park next to it

I'm surprised no one mentioned that the motor is still tight.

To the O.P., is this your first brand new bike?

I bought my '05 brand new, and it took a few hundred miles for the motor to feel like it freed up a little, then right around the 10,000 mile mark it felt like a whole new bike again! Revved quicker, spooled up quicker out on the road, etc.

I think yo umight be suffering some buyer's remorse and guilt over having "given up" on your old bike. There's an easy way to fix that. Go pull that sheet of it and ride the damn thing! Then fix your old bike!

My advice is to do LOTS more research and then trade for what you really want. I don't quite understand what you are going for...you seem to be saying that the VFR is too slow but 1000's are too sporty. There are lots of bikes out there and undoubtably there is one that is just right for you. Good luck!

I have just watched the Youtube of Freedy Spencer on the 08 VFR. I think now maybe it's not a dog at all but a wolf, in sheeps clothing.

Buying a hammer does not make you a carpenter. Freddy is a carpenter, me I just own a really nice hammer... .

I think that school would be so damn cool. I'll admit it here and now, I have never drug my knee. Hell I never had pants with pucks... .

I hugged my VFR today. Then took a quick peak at the 08.

I'm on my 3rd VFR now, and the 2nd 6th gen. The other one was a 5th gen. In between the 2 last VFRs I had a Blackbird and a VTR 1000F.
The VTr was a great bike for fun, but not comfortable for touring or pillioning, and I found the Blackbird boring. You had to do go to jail speeds to have any fun on it.
As others here have stated, the VFR is one of the most versatile bikes you can buy, and surprisingly sporty.
When they are new, they are very tight, and it takes about 5000Kms to loosen up.
You should give it a chance.
I have a PC3, Leo vince pipes, all the airbox mods, pair disabled, all of which you can do in about 30 mins.
This is about the best looking, best sounding and most enjoyable to ride bike that I have owned, but thats just my opinion.
I suggest if you dont like it trade it for something else, then maybe someone that appreciates it can give it a new home.

just backflip it at the x-games and they will take it back no prob..maybe you have a bad one?? try holding it in first gear at 9500 rpm then dump the clutch make sure you sit all the way back on the seat for traction. it should help it take off better and make up for those 2 tenths your after then all will be well.. good luck..

I wonder how practicle it would be to ever buy or trade for the white tank and bodywork?

I'M 50/50 now about parting the 87. To me it's a vestige of my lost youth and still very repairable after a low speed dog collision in 2000. Reality says it's worth $2500 in really good shape and maybe worth $1500 in parts or whole. I think in a way oarting out is murder. Yet when I see tail sections and single seat cowls going for big bucks, I think about it. I have a really tidy tank from an 86 and a perfect right fairing too. What to do what to do?
