Unfortunately the time is coming to move onto something new. Im leaning towards the dirt as there is one of the best places to ride off-road within 30 miles of home.
But anyway im wondering what kind of price i should ask for a very good condition 98? I cant seem to post a picture for some reason but it has a very minor mods like a zero gravity shield a k&n air filter and flapper and pair mods. There are just a couple scratches that can only be seen if you get real close up. It has fresh pilot powers almost new a recent oil andfilter change. The miles are just turning to 40,000. It had the 32k valve check and adjust and i also have the factory service manual and the owners manual. I am the second owner and it has always been garaged and waxed. Just describingit makes me want to keep it. But i need achange for a while. So honest price i should ask for it? Thanks

Varies by location & if any of the rectifier/wiring mods have been done. Lowball would be @ $2000 to a high of @ $4000.

Obviously you want top dollar for it, and the buyer wants to lowball. your little high on mileage so I would think $3000-$3200 would be fair.

I think TNRabbit is right on the money. Somewhere in the ballpark of $3000 give or take a few hundred.

I have been on the hunt for a 5th gen for the past 3 months, and gauging from what I have seen go quick compared to others that have hung around, if you got $3000 for it, take it and be happy. I would list it for $3200 and take $2800.

You 5th gen'ers are being hurt by Sport Rider. The '98 was just listed as one of the best used buys in America. They have the "average retail" value at $2500. Retail sounds like dealer price, but that cant be true....

I think #1,500 would be an excellent price since I'm looking for one!

Yes it would be a best buy at 2500 in retail condition. I had mixed emotions about the sport rider article. Pleased about the 5th gen getting the credit it deserved but bummed at the low price they put on it.
Welcome bauer5. But not such a good first post insulting the value of our beloved 5th gens. Just kidding. From what i have read about the prices in canada i would think double that would be an incredible price for you.

Most bikes 40k is a whole lot of miles and so is 16 years of age. We know that is not the issue with this beast so with the proper buyer you could fetch $3500 for a peach.

If I were shopping, molesting the pair and flapper would reduce what I'd be willing to pay. A peach in OEM condition brings top dollar.

No im going to have to pass on the three dollar cash offer. But i will let you sit on it for three dollars. Vroom vroom noises are extra.
With the purchase of the bike i will include all the flapper and pair crap should you want to re-install it.

OK, I can go as high as a fiver if I can pump the levers and work the throttle..;) I always thought the only dudes that molested their bikes were harleydoods.
