    Hey,

New to VFR's but have always loved the bikes. Can anyone give opinions on the 1996 model VFR? I am looking at picking up a used one with 28000kms on it. I have read that these engines are pretty bullet proof and go forever. Anything I should look out for etc before buying it?

    Thanks for any info.

The 4th Generation bike is the last of the carbureted bikes. It is often referred to as the "high water mark" of the VFR lineage (no bias here...), and has won many awards in the motorcycling realm.

28,000 km is next to nothing on these bikes, some would say that you're still 28k shy of your first valve check (you may not even need to adjust them).

The regulator/rectifier is the only weak point on these bikes, everything else is pretty much solid.

Seeing service records would be nice, but this is one of the best VFRs EVER (lots of bias here), so just have a thorough test ride, and make your deal !!

IF you can do whatever minor service it might need, you're golden! Enjoy.

I love my '96. Lube the chain, change the oil, and ride. The R/R is pretty much its only weak point.

The best of course is the 4th (94-97) generation VFR!

They are all good, I just happen to be biased. Make sure it has been maintained properly and enjoy!
