Polished the pivot shafts and bearings packed with EP Moly Grease, with Bel Ray waterproof grease around the seals.

tough looking paint. What does getting rid of the resonator/collector do I wonder. I know its a direct bolt on, keep us up to date as I know you will. Peace - oh, btw, both of mine use the gen3 pipes with slip on mufflers, no rot or rust.

Really is just an experiment. The original exhaust was pretty damn hammered, but solid and intact. I wasn't gonna spend a bunch of time restoring that anchor tho. So lose some weight, and have that area be more open and a little "racier" looking. Show off the restored suspension pieces. Hah!

Don't think I've seen it done before really. Probably because of how the lower cowl pieces mount to the collector chamber. It will look pretty "stock" when I'm done.

Starter disassembled, armature cleaned, brushes inspected/sanded/cleaned. Still LOTS of brushes left, they have to pushed back quite far to allow the armature in place. Everything sprayed out with electronics cleaner. There was a PILE of brush dust in there and the cleaner came out black at first. Some carefully placed, sparse, silicone grease on the shaft that engages the housing opposite the splines. Some satin black wheel paint, ready for another 50K.

They spin up so nice when you do this.

yeh, that collector box has some captured nuts on it that you bolt those metal lower fairing parts to, I don't have to tell you that though:) I did starter motor on my 91 years ago, I had some hot starting issues once I rebuilt it with fresh OEM brushes and the obligatory cleaning (no painting) it sounds like a factory fresh bike starting. I had some problems with the phanellic washers I remember as it was a bit of a cluster F when I took it apart, those magnets do have some authority, I ended up using a donor starter to figure out the spacing of the washers. Happy ending to the story, the useless things your brain remembers, Peace

Stock 1992 shock is ~345 mm

    PXL_20240220_232100637.jpg

Setting the Fox about 7.5 mm longer

    PXL_20240220_232214620.jpg

Probably would have played around with a few more, but I wanted to keep enough of the clevis shaft engaged in the shock to feel totally comfortable. 7 mm longer than stock is usually about what I do on my YSS equipped bikes, and it is very noticeable... in a good way.

Caltric gasket. Looks decent and it did fit nice.

    PXL_20240221_022337251.jpg

Took the clutch apart, roughed up the metal discs radially with some 180. Clean up and installed with some new EBC springs. The clutch didn't slip before under full throttle shifts so it should be good for quite a while now. I could tell the bike likely did already get a new clutch at some point in it's life.

    PXL_20240221_022341114.jpg

One of the easiest gasket scrapings I've done in a LONG time.

Starter installed and refinished cover bolted down.

    PXL_20240221_025738162.jpg

I didn't bother doing any any bolt restorations or looking for nicer ones in my stash. The bike has enough patina and you can only see a couple with the lowers on.

    Love that color.

Looking real nice dude! I did perform some bolt restoration and in the end they ended up corroding way faster. I think blast and paint or new is best option.

Not sure what you did on your bolt "resto", but you certainly can't just wire wheel them.

God this thing is still such a filthy pig... but...

Exhaust headers, linkage and shock are installed and it's killer.

Oh my god, dude. I have SCRUBBED on this bike. The counter shaft chain area was one of the worst I have experienced. There is still caked / baked chain grime that can only be addressed if/when the engine is separated from the frame for "Resto".

When the linkage and exhaust was off I did some more hand cleaning with gas, lacquer thinner, carb clean... but I couldn't get much messier as I was still on the lift in the main shop. I was still scraping caked shit out of newly found pockets. GODDAM!
