It had happened on my 500, two owners ago. I still had the rod and piston in my garage a few weeks ago. The last two owners never threw it out and left it in the bins of parts. I took the rod off the piston because when I get around to selling the other stuff that I have I will only keep the piston. I'm thinking that a picture of it will be my new avatar and that instead of "VF 500 parts" in my profile it will say "VF 500 Piston". Hehe

I looked for the rod last night for a picture, but I must have tossed it.

Was this caused by a blown head gasket or by a leaky float valve?

I hydrolocked my old 500 by accident. Dumped too much seafoam down the carbs.

I didn't bend any rods luckily.

    Sure did.

The current owner loves it though. (probably cause he hasn't had to fix anything on it yet)

I was told it was a leaky petcock. As I noted above I also assume that leaky floats are also required to make this nice surprise a reality.

Wha wha wha? I just did the Seafoam in the carbs trick on my 84 to clean them out and get it running. How did you fix this? How did you know it was HL'd? I assume you drained the bowls on the carbs to fix it, but how did you know it happened? And I'm guessing a HL isn't a 100% sure fire thing when the carbs get filled...wonder how come sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't?
