That seems like a good price, so it was discounted then?

    A bit, yea

hard to know how much, they charged me $200 last time per frame to blast, prime and PC.

this time one frame was easy (just paint to blast) the other was removing the shyt job they did which probably took much longer.

at $100 CAD for 2, I wasn't going to make any further stink over it

Nice that my painter got them in primer right away. I delivered them at 2;30pm and they were primed by 4pm. Dont want any flash rust.

maybe have them back early next week all being well.

Why do I keep staring at that van?!

    Because it's rad!

I kept meaning to ask, what's the second frame for again?

    Both are VF1000R frames.

    I bought 4 bikes 2 yrs ago.

I asked my buddy/painter (its his van) if that was the Scooby doo van, ie the "Mystery Machine"

Funny, the centre console must have about 50 toggle switches on it, I have to ask him what they all for when I pick up the frames.

He as also got a very nice 69 Camaro that he restored

I guess ill have a spare frame incase some day I find another VF1000R, or...ill sell it

Awesome. Never can enough toggle switches in a van.

OK, so you're doing an "extra" frame. That's like shit I do. Friends think I'm insane.

Insane ? it just makes sense, may as well get 2 frames blasted and primed at the same time. Im only getting one frame painted and cleared though.....sanity prevailed

One of those things that I could do it in a week if I went at it steady.

As it is it will take me a bit longer.

But, no bodywork, no engine work, I have set of new Carbs still in the wrapper (rebuilt and cleaned like new by Billy's -- came with the bike).

its mostly disassembly, and re assembly with a pile of cleaning thrown in the mix to keep it interesting

Did it have a 4-1 exhaust in the pic above or just part of the stocker removed?

The exhaust system is on the floor in the pic with the bodywork.

Capt- I saw the OEM in the other pic, just was wondering if he was switching to OEM 4-2 or if that was what was coming off. The 4-1 seem rare enough, I was curious why he'd switch to OEM if it indeed had a 4-1 on it is all.

This bike has the OEM 4 into 2 (with cut down and re-skinned silencers-- sounds very good).

My other Euro VF1000R has a Hindle 4 into 1 (see pic on page 1), but it will also be getting switched to an OEM 4 into 2 as well. Just don't like the look nor the sound of the Hindle 4 into 1 on this V4 bike. I have a Hindle 4 into 1 on my ZRX1100 and it sounds fantastic, on this bike --- not so much.

What will happen to the Hindle 4 into 1.....dunno yet, maybe Ill sell it

Well, I can tell you my thoughts regarding the exhausts. I would rather have a stock collector and slip-ons than the Sudco 4-1 I have. The stock exhaust on my bike was DESTROYED prior to the restoration and this was the only thing I could find at the time (and I was very lucky to find it). Don't get me wrong, it think it looks pretty good (and was BRAND NEW), sounds good (to me) and pulls like a freight train. And mine feels pretty dialed, I don't think the mid-range is a hole. But the ground clearance of this design is lacking, as the header pipes are stacked on their way to the 4-1 section. I remember the day when I "clearanced" my brand new nickel plated headers on a mid corner dip. Oh well, done now. Then I "speed bumped" it a touch too. Well, that's taken care of now as well.

Here you can see the stacked pipes on the way to the 4-1 section.

On another VF1000R note, the M2/M3 gear I bought from Japan for the Euro VF1000R arrived today after I ordered it over 3 months ago...I was beginning to wonder if id see it.

The replacement gear look ok? Been a long time since I've had to deal with street bike gear sets, safe to assume no one is re-working trans gears anymore like APE back in the day?

I can see your point about ground clearance, but they just look and sound so cool I'd be hard pressed to go back to OEM. The V&H and Kerker full systems seemed to be the best combination of lightweight, ground clearance, and performance with their 4-2 design minus the humongous collector box. There was a local rider back in the mid-80s that had one of the ultra rare Kerker 4-1 for his V65 Sabre, man was that thing awesome. One of my best friend's had the Kerker 4-1 on his V65 Magna too, not quite VMAx sound, but sure was close!

    Gear looks good.

This Hindle sounds like shit on the V4. Id leave it if it sounded good, but it doesnt. Ive got a hindle 4 into 1 on my ZRX1100 and it sounds incredible. Im not sure what the deal is with this particular hindle setup but im willing to bet it doesnt sound like Capt 80's SUDCO.

I just did a nice little ride last night on that bike. I kept thinking, man this thing sounds wicked. It's got the perfect amount of decel burble too. The Double 2-1 (front and rear cylinders separate) on my 500 race bike takes the cake for sound though. It is downright nasty good. My 86 VFR700FII with Kerker Slip-ons is 2nd. The sound is perfect and it retains the crossover pipe right in front of the rear wheel.
