I did the starter valves today.
I do own a set of four vacuum gauges that I've used on all my carburated bikes for years, but I found them not accurate enough to do a proper job on the 5th gen.
I tried many times, but finally gave up.

I'm a refrigeration mechanic by trade, so have a lot of very expensive gauges at my disposal.
The down side is I only have a single gauge to work with, so it takes a lot of going back and forth, as any adjustment you make, affects the previous one.

Wait until the engine is hot before you start, I have a big blower fan that I set up on the front of the bike to keep it from overheating, you don't want to work on the bike above normal operating temperature.

As my gauge doesn't have mmHG, I use KPa converted, cylinders 1 and 2 need to be the same, cylinder 3 needs to be 2.6KPa lower then 1, and cylinder 4 needs to be 1.3KPa lower then 1.

The adjusters need a 7mm spanner

    End results were 1 & 2 at -35KPa, cylinder 3 -32KPa and cylinder 4 -34KPa.
Thats as close as I can get them.

I like the starter valve identification on the air box Oz. Good thinking.

Thanks Terry, beats relying on memory.
Went for a 250km ride today after the sun finally came out, first time we've seen it in over a month.
Very happy, all is good, and after taking a long time and double checking my maths on the starter valves (I had it wrong all previous times) and trying to get them spot on, I can report the vibration I've had at 6500rpm and onwards is finally gone.
The difference was this time I spent a long time doing them, redoing them and double checking.
My guess is I spent around 1.5hrs playing with them.
A lot also comes down to previous experience on what works and what doesn't.
4 gauges would make life much easier, but as I stated, the set of dial gauges I have are just not accurate enough to do starter valves as I've tried many times without success.
Next project will be to dynotune my PCIII, as I have a generic Euro map for a 2001 with Staintune, no baffle in it now, and my friends mentioned that every time I passed the apex, they could see a twin swirl of black smoke coming from my pipe.
But to keep the wife from getting cranky, I might have to wait for a while.

A picture taken on that day.
Got to try out my new helmet as well (Shark Spartan Carbon), feels great, much lighter, much quieter and a lot less buffeting then my old Shark Vision R.
    A win win.
