In the case of mooted VFR1000RR / ST the V5 is a hand me down from Hondas RC211 990 MotoGP bikes with 3 cylinders in the front and 2 in the back. Unlike the IL5 Audi or staggered IL5 VW motor Honda say the RC211 MotoGP engines 75.5deg bank angle it has perfect Primary balance so doesnt require a balance shaft.

One question I have, if the current VFR stands for Vee Four Racing will the VFR1000RR no longer be a VFR anymore rather it will become a new VFR as in Vee Five Racing Gen 1 ?

Not to say that my local Honda shop knows anything, but...

A friend of mine went to the Honda shop to order a VFR800 and was told they are no longer produced and could not be ordered.

I still don't put much faith that this has any meaning. It's possible they are going with the VFR1000, or it could just be that the '09 VFR800 isn't on the order list yet.

John, you are correct and maybe it would be a Vee Five Racing Gen 1, however when i was at the dealer i tried to order a vfr800 and they said they could do that ? i guess time will only tell ?
PS, i did not know honda all ready had a engine V5 ? if they had one maybe your on to something ?

I'm thinking it's similar to when Honda converted and detuned the then newly obsolete WSB RC45 v4 engine into the Gen 5's 800 in '97 and don't expect the hinted at '09 VFR1000RR v5 will have the MotoGPs 990cc 237HP with 16,500 rpm Redline.

    :pound::pound::pound::crazy:

Maybe they left the under-seat plumbing for the fifth cylinder!

Anything short of the Honda announcement is bound to be BS. The only credible exception I've seen is the pictures taken at the dealer show of the 1000RR last year.

Still not holding my breath on the new VFR.

I think the 6 Aug MCN cover is total BS. Why do I think this?

With the exception of the SSSA & VFR wheel, the entire rear of the bike, morrors, gas tank, front end, etc... is a cut-n-paste right off the new CBR-buttfreakingugly-1000RR.

With that VFR1000GT, it appears as if they are trying to make a true competitor for the C14 & FJR13, right? Then why is the seat so small? The wind screen so short? This bike appears to be no different than the current 6th Gen save for new body work.

Like many have said, when I can actually go see one in a dealer, then & only then will I believe Honda has produced a new VFR.

    KC-10 FE out...

Off course its only a photoshop to sell MCN magazines but if the persistant rumours are actually strategic leaks they could also be a pointer based on current Honda styling philosophies and as the VFR has been Hondas technology Flagship in the past with a MotoGP inspired v5 why should it not be again ?

Wouldn't think so, my guess is the VFR1000GT will be marketed as sharp handling, comfortable and fast Sportstourer biased motorcycle knocking off not only that Triumph 1050ST pretender but hammering the ZX-14R and K1200S for six to become the Best balanced motorcycle on the Planet again.

Just got done reading what MCN wrote up, Hmm if, and it's an if knowing MCN, I'm holding out till I see it in person, read a couple things that bother me, why in the H would Honda do that. Crazy if you ask me, the two things, shaft drive and variable engine management, that and there's word it has chain driven cams too. :hangme:

Even if this is all just a load of B.S. --->:bs:, we all have dreams. may as well have fun with them now, because reality will be just around the corner:unsure:.
Leave it alone, if people want to believe, let them. If they don't, they don't. For me; If it's true, I want one- of each! (I do prefer a manual gear box though...)

more importantly, will they release a 400cc version? maybe I should get one of you nay-sayers to pinch me.....

LOL you guys crack me up, on the matter of the two bikes on the cover that's another item that was wrote up as there is two versions supposedly being brought out. Yea right?

Did I mention the push button shifting in 60 nano seconds too. sheesh what a rag...
Oh one thing that was mentioned that might have some validity is this is suppose to come out late Sept. 24th as thats Honda's 60th birthday.

Here's more info to have fun with.

hmmm. Im nervous about push button shifting and a drive shaft.... yuck.

I want the V5 though! Make it weigh as much as my current 6th gen and I will be happy. We can only wait!

I have heard though that they never caught that Bat-Boy, so sleep with one eye open...

Nice, derstuka! As Robin would say, "Holy cat crap, Batman! Your son is on crack again!"

And if we do get a V-5, maybe it will be called a "VFiR", to be pronounced, "ViFiffeR".
