VFR World Records of All Sorts!

These are just some fun "world records" that I have picked up from lists, news groups and home pages sprinkled with some serious records that reflect the versatility of the wondrous VFR. In some instances, verification is the Rider's word, which works in Texas.

CATEGORY: Most VFR Miles in 7.5 Hours

During spring break of 1997, Cori Ewing rode 625 miles from Sebastopol, California (near Santa Rosa which is 60 mile North of San Francisco) to San Diego, California in 7 1/2 hours on his '94 VFR750F. He reported two (2) brief stops and used a Camelbak to keep himself hydrated.
CATEGORY: Most VFR Miles in 12 Hours

Record held by Jim Bair who completed 902 miles in 12 hours from Dallas, Texas to Albany, Georgia during November 1999 on his '98 VFR800FI. He reports that the temperatures never got above 52 degrees the entire trip!
CATEGORY: Most VFR Miles in 24 Hours

Record held by Jim Bair who completed 1,710 miles in 23.5 hours from Miami (Florida) to Chattanooga (Tennessee) to Atlanta (Georgia) to Dallas (Texas) on his '98 VFR800FI during November 1999. He used his Chevron quick pay card and never got off of the bike until he hit Mississippi.

Other VFR 24 Hour Trips
  • Benjamin Cain (Texas, USA) completed a Saddlesore 1000 on July 19, 1996, on his VFR750F.
  • Scott Avery (Washington, USA) completed a Saddlesore 1000 in the Cascade Classic on September 14, 1996, on his VFR750F.
  • Hawk W. Hibbs (North Carolina, USA) completed a Saddlesore 1000 on November 28, 1998, on his VFR800FI.
  • J. Braun, (Connecticut, USA) completed a Saddlesore 1000 on July 24, 1999, on his VFR1000R.
  • Matthew Gray (Kingston, England) completed a Saddlesore 1000 on June 24, 2000, on his VFR400.
Footnote: These are the first VFR Owners that I know who completed this IBA feat on a particular model VFR. Now, there are more than many more VFR Owners who have completed equally challenging IBA sponsored rides.
CATEGORY: Most VFR Miles in 48 Hours

Record held by Brendan C. Guy who completed 2,100 miles during the Spring of 1998 from Brooklyn (New York) to the state of Georgia on his '92 VFR750 with a Corbin seat, F2 bars, and a throttlelock. The tankbag allowed him to carry weight on his chest.
CATEGORY: Most VFR Miles during a Road Trip

Record held by Leonard Roy who completed a 13,000 mile round trip from Maryland to San Diego (California), then to Fairbanks (Alaska), Arctic Circle, Anchorage, and returned to Maryland in just over 3 weeks on his '87 VFR during the summer of 1992.

Honorable Mention - Jason Denham completed 4,500 miles and 11 States in 5 days & and 6 hours starting June 18, 1999 on his '86 VFR750F. Jason's trip in his own words.
Honorable Mention - Steve Colwell completed 2,933 miles in 6 days and 6 States (USA) in May 1999 on his VFR800FI Interceptor and without any bike problems (of course).
CATEGORY: Youngest VFR Rider Circumnavigation of Australia

Dez Rae, age 27, rode his '00 Red VFR800FI around Australia in 9 weeks starting on March 10, 2002, completing the trip on May 9, 2002, and he traveled 17,922 kilometers!

Dez may have also established the Hottest VFR Ride Record when he rode his VFR in 49 degrees Celcius (120 degrees Fahrenheit) about 50 kilomteres outside Broome, Western Australia during May 2002. The temperature was verified that night on the local news as the hottest day ever recored in Broome!
CATEGORY: Most Life-Time Miles on VFRs

The Life-Time Record Holder is the Esteemed Steve Johnson who has over 280,150 miles on five (5) V4s as of September 2000.

  1. '84 VF750 Interceptor - 30,000 miles
  2. '86 VFR700 - 29,000 miles
  3. '90 VFR750 - 118,500 miles
  4. '96 VFR750 - 87,150 miles
  5. '00 VFR800 - 15,500 miles and counting
Honorable Mention - David Styles (UK) over 152,000 miles on his '92 VFR750FN since he purchased it new in June 1992 (as of January 2003), which is the most on a single VFR.
CATEGORY: Fastest Documented VFR

Record held by Brian Law after a day on the track June 2, 1997, witnessed by VFR Lister Alex Benn.
  1. 1994 stock VFR750F - 237 km/hr or 147.8 mph
  2. 1995 VFR840 (customized) - 254 km/hr or 158.4 mph
CATEGORY: Most Seasoned Viffer

This record is held by the Honorable Clark Stanley (DOB January 1929) from San Luis Obispo, California. Clark currently rides a '98 VFR800FI.

Another record holder is Don Lewis (DOB February 1938) from Gilroy, California who owns a '97 VFR and a '85 VF700. Don has been riding motorcycles for over 40 years and has owned over 50 motorcycles. Most of them were dirt bikes, but 10-12 were street legal bikes.

A 3rd record holder is James S. Danehy (DOB July 13, 1938) from Cincinnati, Ohio on Ruby, his '96 VFR750F.
CATEGORY: VFR the Farthest North in Europe

Record held by Steiner Bangs for taking his '95 VFR750F to the Arctic Circle in August 1996.
CATEGORY: VFR the Farthest North in North America

Record is held by Leonard Ray for taking his '87 VFR to the Arctic Circle via Alaska in June 1992.
CATEGORY: Most VFR's Gathered in One Place

According to Hans van den Hoek ('95 VFR), this record may have been established when 75 VFR's riders gathered for a VFRON meeting held in Nulde, Holland on April 24, 1995.
CATEGORY: Owner of 5 Generations of Honda's V4's

Record held by Joe Norris who has owned a '86 VF500F, '87 VFR700F2, '91 VFR750F, '97 VFR750F, and now a '00 VFR800.

Footnote: In the fall of 1985, Joe Norris rode a Honda Elite 125cc scooter 687 miles in 15 hours from Anaheim, Ca. to Salt Lake City, Utah.
CATEGORY: Owner of the Most VF's and VFR's

Record held by W. K. Yip from Calgary, Alberta Canada who has owned a '84 Interceptor 500, '85 Interceptor 500, '85 Interceptor 750, '84 Interceptor 1000, '84 VF1000R, and a '93 VFR750F. He has also owned a '82 V45 Magna and '84 V65 Magna for a total of seven (7) V4's.
CATEGORY: Most VFR Wheelie's during One Ride

Record held by Gary Bandy on his '91 VFR750 during a 475 mile ride in North Texas on March 19, 2000. Gary pulled 45 wheelie's or about one (1) every 10 miles!
CATEGORY: Most Determined to Own a VFR

Record held by Kevan Silver, Australia, for the most determination to keep a VFR.

Kevan has owned a Red '96 VFR (Feb.'97) which was nicked; a '98 Silver VFR (Feb.'99) which was in a bit of an accident with a wrong-way BMW; a Blue '95 VFR (July '00) which was involved in a minor incident; a Red '94 VFR (Feb.'03) which was in a crash with a 4WD & trailer doing a U-Turn; and a Blue '97 (July '03) which is holding it's own. That's five (5) VFRs!

Honrable Mention goes to Jim Greer who was also determination to keep a VFR.

1993 Recovered after 2 months
1993 Stolen again after 1 month
