Ive run that pocket plugger on several tires to the cords. Its always the rear - whats up with that? Um- so you are throwing out the old Roadsmart?

OEM Honda R/Rs do run hot - 200 degrees was my guess by the finger burn test, doesnt mean its good ----- but 15+ volts at 5K is on the high side....

Sounds like you need to do the charge up the battery and go get it load tested. - I havent heard of any of these R/Rs running less than 14v at 5k rpm.
I would take a few photos of your install and shoot them to the Roadstercycle, even get on the phone with the guy.......
