3 line set-up may look a tad cleaner but eliminating that junction is what gave the smooth fluid flow. The 3 line system is inefficient IMOP.

I have the 2 line set-up and it works much better to me. It's has very smooth pressure all the way to lock.
On the infamous trip to Long's I made it 204 miles before I checked out.
