the o-rings around the screws are just for extra security. I should be mounting the tank soon. I'll know then.
Just to be clear Mike, I put an o-ring on the tank filter then installed it in the gas tank. Then I coated around the o-ring with the liquid...

I have o-rings on both screws and the tank filter shaft
This Permashield sealant and Liquid tape. The liquid tape is awesome for rubber repair. Better then glue sticks IMO and much easer to apply.
So this is what I came up with as a petcock.
