that melting is very, very common. :( apparently honda had top class mechanical engineers and woefully inadequate electrical engineers. :confused:

what u need 2 know is all in the service manual, ok ? most likely a drain. ..............which can be accessed online.
too many mechanical problems with valve train, and replacement parts very hard to get. the #1 problem bike as reported on this site.
do yourself a favor and forget about any VF500s in your search.
may not be worth saving............. re-boring requires a complete stripdown and a specialist workshop, and new pistons/rings may not be...
