I polish the carb spigots a bit with 600 grit and lube with Vaseline, all clamps loosened fronts first and patiently work the rears in gradually....
They don't get great mileage, yours doesn't sound to far off for sustained high speeds, but for putting around that may be a bit low.
Have a set of bowl o-rings for a 700 free if anyone NEEDS.
I use an IR laser sighted thermometer it works well for checking the headers.
