+1, look for something cooking off on the exhaust. Could be some road kill or some kind of debris stuck on the exhaust.
If any of the crap that leaked out of the battery got onto your bike, CLEAN IT ASAP. It is highly corrosive! Baking soda & water should do the trick.
The outer portion of the muffler where its dented is just a heat shield. Its actually pretty weak.
You would think its designed so the cans would be close to the factory locations. So the muffler hangers could be attached to the factory...
As long as outlet size on the mid pipe matches the inlet size on the can. If fake can is identical to the functional muffler, why wouldn't it work.

If I had to guess I'd say they adapted pipes from another application. Hindle makes a mid-pipe for Gen 6 VFR's. Just add your mufflers of choice....
