welcome, be safe, and enjoy the bike.
The only thing we can figure is that the previous owner may have over tightened the chain.
Ok, bike is back together. Sorry for the lack of pics, but I wasn't doing the work. My bro in law did not remove the heads to get the bottom end...
Well, I'm not doing the work myself, I'll try to have some pics done as the project progresses.
How big above spec can you go with the rear?
well, as long as the tranny is off of mine it's getting a new seal anyhow. I'll let you know how the cylinder removal bypass works out.
thanks TOE
The title says it all, do you have to remove the cylinder heads and valve train on an 86 VF500 to split the cases? If so, why?
for the 86 vf500 I could only find the OCR version of the clymer, not the fsm. like I said tho, I picked one up on ebay like you suggested.
yup, i got mine on ebay. If I had a scanner I would OCR the thing and post it up.
Nice job! It looks great!
I'd love to see that.
I thought there were differences in the head gaskets between the two years. Seems like someone said there were extra holes in the 84-85 ones....
Just make sure it's nothing long on the line...don't want to get any of the oil on your laundry that's leaking out of the HD.
what the heck creaky? Did the PO just randomly take a hammer to the bike? Thanks for the pics but I think I'll pass.
sure, if you don't mind.
How much for the exhausts? everything behind the collector.
+1 to the countershaft bearing. Getting ready to replace mine now.
ok. parts are on order. FYI oldbikebarn.com sells Athena full gasket sets for VF500's. OEM Gasket set "B" is on backorder from Honda until 11/1.
everything after the collector which should just be the mufflers, clamps, and mounting bolts
