Badbilly, Any motor oil will work on the old beemers. Just make sure the weight is correct.
If you have switched over to synthetic oil I'd like your input. My question: Is there any noticeable difference in the smoothness of shifting?...

crashburn, 12c is 53f get on your bike and ride. With todays gear and equipment it is possible to ride safely unless ice is present.
