Not quite, there is no "all the way clockwise" or "all the way counterclockwise". You can turn it continuously in either direction....clockwise...
When it's on 4 (stiffest) the "dot" is straight up. Turn it clockwise it'll be on 1. _ . _4 1 3 _2 That's how it is on my 85 vf500.
