No I have not taken the valve covers off yet. I am gonna pull carbs again today clean the enrichment tubes. Pull the valve covers and adjust the valves. I am calling the Honda dealer today to see if they have gaskets. Only thing I can figure is that the cylinder heated up for the first time in years and the gasket went bad. All the help has been great. Back the the barn for some more wrenching today!

When ordering the new gaskets for the cam covers you may want to also order a set of new 'boots' for the carbs. This will make the carb install much easier.

I about had a stroke when I called for prices on the carb floats! $48 a piece! The bowl gaskets $46...The floats are a little chewed up and I thought I might as well replace them when I have the carbs apart...They work its going back together...
Can anyone send me a link to the least expensive HONDA OEM part supplier?

I know this be an old thread but I had that blown valve cover gasket a couple of decades ago. Ended up the I put the hose to recirculate the blowby gases from the crank to a the wrong spigot on the plenum. I put it on one that was blocked off vice one that put the gases back into the intake to keep emissions down. The pressure build-up blew the seal with the least tolerance for pressure - the valve cover gasket. It is only designed to keep spray oil in, not hold in pressure (which can be up to around min 160 psi, much greater on the combustion stroke. Just ensure that second hose that goes to the plenum goes to a spigot with a clear hole in it.
