had a similar problem and turned out to be the right side switch block. the headlight switch would short out the whole bike. could have lights on...
would a standard vfr 1000 interceptor one work ?? they are easier to rebuild and more common
anything with codine in it will bung u up as well .. so couple immodium and say mercindol and all good .. might not poo for 24 hrs but it works.....
