+1 I can't think of any other reason it would spin backwards as it would be very hard to reverse the wiring.
I had this happen right before the R/R officially fried. I would check it to see if it's working correctly.
It sounds like you may have blown your main fuse as a result of a bad R/R. Check the fuse, you should hear the FI system when you turn the key.

Definetly sounds like a dead battery. I'd give it a charge at 1.5-2 amps for a min of 8 hours and check the voltage. It should give you 13 volts...
Check your battery with a voltmeter. I would guess that it's a little low.
