well the fans dont kick on and Im pretty positive thats why it shuts off in stop n go hot traffic.

but my question is, what part controls the fan to kick on, when it sat in my driveway i turned the bike off, then clicked the key to on and the fans started blowing for like 5 secs then shut off, so i tried it again and they didnt come on.

So how do i get them to come on, and where can i buy replacement parts?

look at the left side of your Radiator there is a two wire switch. you can put in a jumper wire..... if the fan still does not come on ,replace the fan. other wise the switch on the radiator is your problem.

yeah just connecting them together. don't ground it out. best place to start is E- Bay , then check some of the online honda dealers. found that they have different prices, but shipping is about the same.

ok so i unplugged the two wires from the switch and connected the two "studs" from the switch together with a little peice of wire and no fan came on.

Can I assume that the switch is bad now and order a new one?

Sounds like the fans aren't getting power. With the two wires hooked up and the bike running, the fans should turn.

    Check the fuse.

if you jumped the wires and fan did not come on the like masonv45 said check the fuse. if the fuse is good then fan is bad replace it.. check E - bay.

Sounds like you connected the "Studs" on the switch together. This won't do anything. Connect the two wires together and see what happens, not the studs on the switch.

Make sure the ignition is in the "ON" position when you do it.

As mentioned in our e-mails back and forth, his fans are not the problem. To clarify - dodgesean is saying that his engine dies in traffic, not just the fans. My recommendation is to check the pulse generators as that's normally the problem in these situations.

Additionally, I do not think there is anything wrong with his fans. His engine dies before the point where they would come on, so I doubt there is anything wrong with that system.

thanks for clearing it up Jamie.

Ill try checking the pulse generators and post back to help anyone else out if they experience the same problems.

and yes i did connected the studs together NOT the wires, so I did that wrong, but ill check that too, it takes like 30 sec.

    thanks guys for the replies.

So if I need to replce it, is it like a coil wire, or the gear?

Come on Matt, you know better than that!

The pulse generators are the Hall Effect sensors that trigger the ignition. More specifically, they send a signal to the spark box(es) which is used to calculate the engine speed and when to time the ignition spark. These are housed inside the engine cases and is therefore a very harsh environment for an electrical device. I'm actually surprised they don't fail more often.

It's discontinued, I might have the same problem w/ mine. I talked to my local bike shop, and they said "it can be repaired, but would have to do some research, and be fabricated". I ment to call Honda but havn't yet. It might become a winter project at this point.
