All VFR engines are good!! They are all regarded as being very reliable. I had a '94 VFR750 with 150,000km on the clock, it didn't miss a beat. Unfortunately I wrote it off in October. :-[ There are a few VFRs here in Australia that have done 200,000km without any problems. The one arguing point is regarding the VTEC or gear driven cam motors, everyone has an opinion.
Best engine? Yes, they are ALL great, right from the beginning. I still have the first Honda V-4, a 1982 VF750 Sabre that I bought new 23 years ago. 70,000 miles and still going strong on the original engine. These early motors were known for blowing cams, but mine still has the stock cams and they remain in great shape.
