............this attitude with women concerning us guys that like motorcycling. Yes way old worn out topic. But when you get right down to it I don't get it she has her thing I'm ok with it. but turn the tide ha, what the H is up with it anyway? For those that are lucky to have met up with the right gal I salute you. But man it sure seems that women hate motorcycles or dislike us for liking them not to mention riding, sheesh!! I'd really like to know what's up with this? Dr. Phil?? please.

I was really fortunate in that my ex-wife, of 19 years, loved riding on the back of my 1100F. I would reach back with my left hand and pat the outside of her thigh, and she knew that meant to hold on tight, because the road conditions were right to take a WOT blast to about 130 or so. She is also a major lead-foot in her vehicles...

For the females who have a problem with it, I suspect a jealousy issue. Most every woman I have ever known really does want to worshiped and to be #1 in your life, even if they won't admit it to you or themselves. I suspect that part of my marriage ending was the fact the my ex knew that I didn't NEED her in my life. I wanted her in my life, but that isn't the same thing...

Or it could also be partly from practicality concerns. If you were to injure yourself, not only does the steady income cease, you now have to be taken care of.

And from what I can tell, most people, of either sex, can't tell you why they dislike something, nor will they take the time and trouble to figure it out or get over it.

So no easy answers here. Frikkin' humans... No wonder I'm so reclusive.

    Hope that somehow helps!

i thought that chicks dig motorcycle riders... at least for flings... they like the danger of it. not many seem to think bikers are long term potential, but let's face it, I like the meaningful 24 hr relationships...

It is not just women. A lot of men I know think I am crazy to ride a bike. I think people who don't ride listen to the endless hype about how dangerous it is too ride and how bikers are next to the devil in evil etc..... If you don't do something that is a bit different most people just don't "Get it". I am the same with some things but I least try to say "if thats what you want to do thats OK with me".

Ive found it generally relates to how their husbands and/ or boyfriends act on their machine both past and present.

My wife has ZERO interest in bikes, but she knows I love it and sees I take things seriously (i.e. ATGATT, no tickets, keep costs as low as possible, etc.) and she's fine.

However, my wife and myself have been victimized by the completely irrational women, usually at a party, who berates the wife first with the starting line "You LET you husband have a motorcycle!?"

    AAAGGHHH!

My wife still laughs that I would have broke up with her when we were dating if she had told me the bike has got to go!

Anything with which we are enamored that ISN'T them is a serious problem to most women. (NOTE: there are very few women who are self-secure enough to let their man be infatuated with ANYTHING, but themselves. If you're one of these women, I sincerely hope to meet you someday...if not, bugger off.)

Just look at the photo galleries on this website...we love our bikes. I'm going to guess most of the people on this website love their cars, too. But, bikes are ,literally, a totally useless toy...there is no utilitarian excuse to own one (there might be a few exceptions out there...but if you're not filming the remake of CHiPs, you're S.O.L.). These things can be the center of our attention at certain times. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Dr. Phil ain't got s*** on me, son!

Anyhow, how many women riders post on this website?

I hate dr. phil, but what my girl says is that its unsafe, yet she rides on the back. Your exactly right, she has her things I have mine and mine happens to be a motorcycle, im saving gas and I have a blast riding and I wear gear and not stopping anytime soon.

Howdy, Bubba. What is ATGATT? The closest I could figure it was "All The Gear All The Time", or something close to that.

The only thing that I know of that is more dangerous than riding a motorcycle is living, period. Sooner or later, it is always lethal.

yes, that is what ATGATT means. My wife cried the day I bought my first bike, even though I told her I was doing it. Then I explained...I have worked in law enforcement, fire fighting, EMS, hospital( with deadly diseases), and now fly in helicopters for a living. How is a motorcycle any more dangerous than that? She agreed with that. Now all she cares about is that I don't drag a knee in the twisties(she's afraid I will lose it and not be able to work.) I explained that that is how you turn, but she'll have none of it.

I think that the essence, as mentioned above is that it takes a VERY SECURE mate to be ok with this hobby (or anything that takes our passion). So many people (both sexes) do want to be the (near) complete focus of their mate. It truly is a kooky human thing. But, there are secure folks out there and they make everything in life easier when they are your mate.

Geez, I guess I've really lucked out 'cos my wife is quite happy for me to fawn all over my bike and give it TLC.
When we first met she was always up for a blast on the bike ('89 CBR1000)and even tolerated a 1600 mile ride over three days.
I think she is happy that I'm happy. There are times when I get a gentle ribbing ("your not washing your bike again?!").

My wife has even nicknamed my bike after a certain porn starlette 'cos I'm always riding it but hey, I've got my bike and she's got her horses! (now that's a REAL money pit!).

    Cheers,

Just do what I did and declare MCing as your religion. You need to learn about it, practice it, and preach it. She Hates me for owning a bike again. Women, you cant live with them....., what was the rest of that saying?... Oh well.

I made the mistake of getting hitched to a women who didnt care for bikes or even wanted to ride. Well riding is like eating to me - gotta do it. She just tolerated it at first, but then occasionaly complained when I planned a day long ride. Ok now its starting to get old and Im thinking Im a dumbass for stickin with this women. Well one day and an argument and about the end of the line she called out "you love that motorcycle more than you love me!" Oh oh. Well I'm the smartass - and shouted "Well yeah!". She shot for the door and ended up staying at her sisters place, and the papers got signed and everthing settled. Whew! Time to go riding!

I'm sorry, but any woman who says "You let him own a bike?" needs to be bitch-slapped with the quickness.

    KC-10 FE out...

I was married for years to a woman that wouldn't let me have a bike. I'm divorced now and have a bike. I can honestly say I will never let another person try to take such a HUGE part of my life away from me. I loved being with her but there was always that pang come springtime, the longing that it's time to go riding and have a good time. She never understood that about me and never tried to get it.

    Thought I would offer this, because I like it so much and it works for me;

Every path is only a path, and there is no affront, to oneself or any other, in leaving the path if that is what your heart tells you. Examine every path closely, and try it as many times as you feel necessary. Then ask yourself, and ONLY yourself, "Does this path have a heart?" If it does, it is a good path. If it doesn't, it is of no use.

Kind of a bastardization out of a Castaneda book, but I sure like it.
