So as I was getting ready to ride yesterday I went to adjust the left mirror out just a hair and the stalk snapped off right where it necks down to go into the pivot at it's base and goes skidding across my driveway! From the looks of it the stalk is made out of cheap ass potmetal but it should be strong enough to handle a bit of adjusting I would think. I can't imagine it's anything other than a defect in the metal casting since I have less than 300 miles on the bike (new 07 about a month ago) and it hasn't been dropped or anything. It normally wouldn't be a huge deal, but the dealer I bought the bike from is apparently closed for the next week to do inventory, and the other Honda motorcycle dealer isn't sure if they can warranty it, though I can't imagine why not since the few scratches on the back of it came from it flying across the driveway. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm just curious. Also, if they don't warranty it where is the cheapest place to buy Honda OEM parts? Bikebandit is basically list price for everything- I was able to run the part # at work and see cost is $44 and list is $78- unfortunately car dealers/parts dept. can't order motorcycle parts. Thanks for reading.

    Bummer!
I'd hold out for the free warranty part, even if it means waiting a week until the dealer re-opens. Must have been a defective part.
Not to make light, but I bet the look on your face was great when it happened!

    Cheers!

Sorry for your luck. As was stated, must have been a defect in the metal casting. Not sure on where is the best price for one though. Service Honda will be most expensive that is for sure!

yeah I'm gonna try and get it warrantied for sure- the look was likely a combination of shock and disbelief- probably was pretty funny to see as the mirror went flying across the driveway. I also know if the dealer drags their feet a call to American Honda on the 1-800 # will likely get the result I am looking for- we have actually replaced brake pads under warranty on Honda cars here at work because the customer complained to American Honda directly. If they will warranty wear items they ought to fix this...

I would seriously question the integrity of my dealer if he didn't replace or warranty this mirror.

I bought my 2000 from a Honda dealer in January 2008. About 2 months and 500 miles later the entire computer that controls the FI (I don't know what exactly its called) failed. $800 plus labor was the quoted price. I mentioned it to my salesman, and he promptly took care of it, no questions asked. I willingly agreed to pay for an hour of labor. That's what I call service!

If my dealer was willing to fork out hundreds of dollars on an 8 year old bike that they sold me because it had a "bad part", I'd sure as heck expect the same on a brand new bike that you just spent thousands on.

And if they said no, you're darn straight I'd be on the phone getting this resolved. Its not about being cheap, its the principle.

Exactly, the place I took the mirror to yesterday gave me a song and dance and they think I should take it back to the store I bought it from- which I will. What irritates me is what if I was from Michigan or something- these clowns think I should take it back there to get fixed? It's a God damned nationwide FACTORY WARRANTY you pricks! All they did was guarantee if I ever want to buy another Honda, a Ducati, or a BMW motorcycle, I'll drive 60 miles north to Portland rather than spend a dime with those a-holes. Thankfully the dealer I bought from is open again tomorrow so I'm taking the mirror in there and they better do the right thing or I'm gonna make a stink with Honda direct.

HondaTech, how did this turn out? I've got a stock leftside mirror off my '03 in pristine condition. I replaced my stock mirrors with aftermarket CBR929 mirrors. They sit a bit lower and give the bike a more evil look IMO,absolutely functional though. If your Honda dealer doesn't come through for you,you can have this one for free. It does me no good sitting in a box on my parts shelf collecting dust. Just pay the shipping. I know exactly how it feels to be gyped by a dealer. IT SUCKS! Read my reply to Davidmill's toolkit post in the 6th generation VFR forum. Let me know what happend.

Well, the dealer that sold me the bike says they are gonna warranty it so that's good. Thanks so much for your offer to hook me up- it means a lot.

thought I would post the resolution to this- the selling dealer warrantied the mirror and didn't bat an eyelash so it's all good and Cycle Country in Salem, Oregon has earned my trust and continued business.

Right on. Finding real customer service these days is getting more rare.

I had the exact same event occur while adjusting the mirrors on my 2008. Snapped of right at the base hinge.

I just stood there watching my mirrow slide across the garage floor...

    Great stuff.
