    Hi
Have just changed oil and filter all went ok, nice and simple.
However when I tried to start the bike I just get a clicking noise from the starter relay? Could I have dislodged a cable somewhere during the oil change?
    Any ideas would be appreciated!
    Thanks

What bike do you have? How's your battery voltage?

    It's a 98 vfr800, have tested battery output and it's showing 13v.

I'm assuming that if your getting a click that the clutch and kickstand switches are intact. May be something to check out anyway until a smrtr 5th gen person comes along.

I'd check the connections at the battery for tightness, then properly charge the battery (I know, you already said it's good).

Check ALL fuses, check ALL electrical connectors (remove fairings to do this) and check ALL grounding connections.

It could still be your battery, even after charging. Remove it take it to a place where they can load test it.

    Ever had the r/r replaced?

Let us know what you find and how you resolved the issue.

check your connection at the starter, make sure it is not coroded or loose. check your ground from the battery to the frame and that all motormounts are tight. Make sure you are in nuetral. you can short out the wires to the kickstand switch at the plug to open the switch to see if that is the problem. There is also a three pronged diode in your fuse box that could be faulty and of course the starter relay. Of course before you go through all of that make sure your battery is good (have it load tested and completely charged.

    It works now :)

    Hi again
Finally got round to taking another look, went through the connections from the battery to the starter cleaned all of them and tightened them etc.... Charged the battery, put it all back together and hey presto, it worked!
Thanks for all your advice. being a complete ametuer when it comes to taking my bike apart it was a great help!

Having a similar problem with my 98 VFR800. Intermittent problem of pushing the starter button and only a clicking sound, may only click once then start but mostly a number of times before starting. Seems to get worse over a period of time then fixes itself or sometimes a spray of switch cleaner/lubricant in the right hand switch workings seems to alleviate the problem for a while. Hence suspect a 'dicky' connection in the right hand switch assembly, but will do the full check as described above. Thanks everyone.
