I'm hoping someone else has had this problem or have an idea of where to look for a solution.

My 2002 VFR will no longer start if the transmission is in anything but Neutral. I do have the kickstand up and it will continue to run after placed in gear, but if the bike stalls or I cut it off in gear I have to get back to Neutral before firing it up again. It seems like some electrical gremlin and I'm not sure where to look first............any ideas?

I'd start with the clutch switch.

Definately the clutch switch. You can try spraying some WD-40 onto it and then work it to see if it comes back to life. You can also replace it, or place a jumper between the two wires (be carefull of starting it in gear with the clutch out, because it will!).

Thanks for this thread, I thought this behaviour was normal. I'll try the WD40 trick...

I had the same problem when I replaced my leaver. I ajusted it for my small hands and the pull would not trigger the switch.
