Forty-something years ago I took my first learn-to-ride course, but didn't buy a bike. Twenty-something years ago, I was a day away from buying the brand-new VF500R, but didn't. Eighteen months ago, I bought my first bike (Kawasaki KLR250), and a year ago I re-took the MSF course. The KLR was a fabulous bike (especially for a retreaded newbie), but the old hips couldn't stand the kick-start only. Also about a year ago I was given a non-runner VTR250 Interceptor. Once fixed, it was a riot to ride, but the old hands couldn't take the semi-crotch rocket position. So for the last year I've been riding my intermediate bike, a Suzuki V-Strom 650. I've been using it as a lightweight sport-tourer with a little bit of Forest Service Road/country dirt road riding thrown in. All of this is a series of steps on the way to my bucket-list item of owning a BMW boxer sport-tourer, like the R1150S. So I've got a total of maybe 7,000 miles on two motorized wheels under my belt and was wondering about the "new" Interceptor as a middleweight sport-tourer, and also for purely nostalgic reasons. Objects in the rear-view mirror, don't ya know. The VFR World forum doesn't seem to have a category for the VFR-Curious (like other forums do for their bikes), so I guess I'll kibbitz here for a while and see if anything develops. Yes, the VFR800 is calling, especially that RWB 25th-anniversary edition. But it's not yet loud enough for me to replace my V-Strom. But that's a thread for another day. PS. The Multiple Sclerosis Society always needs motorcycle marshals to help with its bicycle rides. Go to the MS Society website for your state and sign up, or PM me and we will go from there.
